This is an exciting time for The National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain, as we are currently remodelling the Choir to one player per part. This means that places in the Choir will be more limited than they previously were, but that we will require more deputies (deps) and reserves than we previously have. If your audition is successful, but there is not a place available in the Choir, then you will be offered a position as a dep. This position would be offered for twelve months, after which time a re-audition would be required (all members re-audition each year). Being a dep would entail covering a part within a specific section of the Choir (eg Soprano/Tenor/Alto/etc). Deputies would have a better chance of obtaining a seat in the Choir should a vacancy arise, but there would be no guarantee of this.
Any deps will be given as much advance warning of a gig as is possible. They will be expected to have memorised any material that requires memorisation and to have prepared any other material to performance standard. They will also be expected to attend any rehearsals tied to that gig. They must abide to the Choir's dress code, currently black trousers and shoes with a shirt. The shirt will be provided by the Choir. The choir's members are not paid, but expenses are usually available for gigs. Deps will receive expenses where applicable and will be notified before accepting the gig if expenses are not available.
Any new members and deps will be on a six month trial and will need to agree to the regulations of the Choir by signing said document. Under extreme circumstances, or if a new member fails to comply with the Choir regulations, the choir reserves the right to terminate that trial membership. This decision would be non-negotiable.
